About Your Instructor

Hi, I'm your instructor J. Ford, a Consumer Advocate.

In 2005 I was going through a divorce, and I had a mountain of debt. Every day, I had debt collectors calling and harassing me.

I was working in radio as a popular DJ and Creative Services Director. On the surface my life looked successful. But the reality was, my personal and professional life was in shambles.

Almost every night when I got home from work, I had a pile of debt collection letters threatening legal action.

My boss and I didn't like each other. In January 2006 by boss walked in with the human resources director and fired me. I took my belongings and walked out never to return.

I spent days sad and depressed in my condo.

One day a Sheriff knocked on my door. I was terrified!

I was being sued for a past-due credit card bill. I didn't know what to do. So, I did nothing about it. Eventually, I lost the court case for the credit card by default and ended up getting a judgement against me for $1,000 plus court cost.

Then in 2006, God blessed me with a Job as a Legal Assistant at a Bankruptcy Law Firm.

The Law firm specialized in helping American Consumers with preventing Bankruptcy.

Every day at work I negotiated with Creditors and Debt Collectors to help our clients get out of debt. During that time, I realized that a lot of people where being taken advantage of because they didn't know their rights.

That's when I realized that if I had known my rights, I could have prevented getting sued by my credit card company. So, because of that

I started teaching my clients how to negotiate and eliminate their debt for themselves.

My boss at the Law Firm told me to stop heling client's because the firm depended on clients not knowing how to help themselves. That meeting made me angry. And my anger forced me to do something about it.

I didn't quit the Law Firm. I stayed so I could learn everything I could to help American Consumers help themselves. By day I was a Legal Assistant and by night I was a Consumer Advocate.

For me, it was about financial Justice!

I became a Debt Warrior I used my knowledge of the system to help people help themselves. I started a blog, a YouTube channel, and a Twitter account. And I helped hundreds of people get out of debt for themselves.
